Reskinned!

The usual D&D races getting a little stale? Just give them a makeover and keep the old mechanics.  Try these knew visuals on for size:

For Elves:
Insect(-ish) men.

For Halflings:
Satyr-like guys.

For Half-Orcs:
Hairy hominids.

For Warforged:
Spaceknights!

Okay, that last one may be a bit of a stretch.

I remember Sectaurs! Some great gaming ideas!

I always thought that reimagining elves as Michael Moorcock's Corum and folk would work if you wanted to run it as a D&D campaign. And, I think Drow mechanics would work well for Melniboneans.

hmm, I don't know Spaceknight anatomy all that well, but his nippular area look the same as his eyes. It his a special trait?

@Tim - It's something you earn at 5th level.

@Sean - Very true. Not all reskinnings have to look markedly different.

@Bill - Thanks! My only regret was that I didn't work in Crystar.

I like the idea, and remember those insect fellows, but my players are not grognards and I think some of the joy they get is from the fantasy cliche of D&D demi-humans. I have sold them on ASE's Grey alien hybrids but those have a lot of the cliche intact. That's just my gang though, and fauns are better than hobbits no contest.

Trey, I figure if you want to figure in elements from Crystar, you could use Uncle Feldspar, post-transformation, as the reskinning for Dwarves...

Awesome! I motion this becomes a new regular series of posts on FtSS!

@James - Yeah! ol' Uncle Feldspar would be perfect.

@Old Man - Yeah, I can see that. If they're still into the old races, no need to change.

@Jay - Well, maybe semi-regullar. :) I don't know how many more variations I can come up with.
